Then...

Dr. Mandel with Elvira Amodio in 1988 before he performed her sight-saving surgery.  After suffering a penetrating eye injury at age 7, Elvira traveled to New York, from Sicily, with her parents to seek out the surgical expertise of Dr. Mandel after doctors in Italy told her that her eye would need to be removed. This heartwarming reunion was covered by the NY Post.

Now...

In October of 2012, 24 years after her surgery, Elvira and Dr. Mandel reunited at Mandel Vision.  She never forgot Dr. Mandel and traveled to New York with her husband to thank him personally.

Before leaving, Elvira presented Dr. Mandel with a picture of the Sicilian coastline she visits annually.
